How listings are checked

Every firm listed advertises at least two exterior cleaning services on its own website. We checked each one — we do not verify insurance, and we don't show ratings: each listing links to the firm's reviews on Google Maps.

What we do check

• ✓The company's own website. We read every firm's site and record which exterior cleaning services it advertises. A firm only appears here if it names at least two.
• ✓That it is an exterior cleaner. We removed equipment suppliers and dealers, builders' merchants, self-service jet-wash bays, chimney sweeps, carpet and oven cleaners, drainage firms and national chains, and folded extra map pins into the one listing for each business — 22,859 entries in all.
• ✓Where they are. Postcodes are resolved to a real local authority area rather than whatever town name appeared in the listing.

What we don't check

• ✗Insurance, licences or Companies House status. We make no claim about any of these. Ask to see a public liability certificate before you let anyone near your roof.
• ✗Reviews. We don't collect, score or verify reviews, and we don't show star ratings. Each listing links to the firm's Google Maps page, where you can read its reviews.
• ✗Prices or workmanship. We've never seen these firms work. Get more than one quote.
